I currently have a 1984 1.9dg running on lpg, if and when a new engine is required can i simply buy a new 2.1 and have that fitted in place of the 1.9 or is there too many other bits that will need exchanging and is there in fact any point fitting the bigger engine as it will know be on carb not inj.
Now before people start telling me to fit Subaru/Golf/Diesel engines or whatever else combinations to my van DON'T..... all i want is an answer to my original question, relevant opinions on what i want to know are very welcome but i don't want to get into discussions on why i should fit this engine or that engine.
Thanks in advance.....
Which engine????????

we have changed from 1.9 to 2.1 on two vans.
Mocki in another thread has said that he has a 2.1 running on the 1.9 cooling system with a carb on LPG no probs
Boy, do they go faster and pull better - our experience, anyway. Don't know about longevity of 2.1 over 1.9.
If you wanna chat to hubby about this, pm me your number and I'll get him to call you.
By the way, elite took our 1.9dg in exchange for a 2.1. fitted the carb, not the injection as it will soon be on gas.
Hope this helps

don't think 2.1 comes up second hand very often, and we were lucky with elite having one in I think. If you do want to go the 2.1 route, start keeping an eye out!

early water systems will swap onto late engines, no hassles, 1.9 and 2.1 if you go on carb and you want to keep the oil cooler you need to add two "T" 's to the system to add it in, thats the only difference....
i wouldnt trust the late water sys, too much plasticto break......

This is facinating a simple swap ..2.1 for a 1.9, with the gas .
Kev - Gasure will be doing the conversion in about another 500 Miles (note to myself: Speak to Pete!)
Elite simply swapped 1.9 for 2.1, using the 1.9 carbs. Was towed off on the Friday, and back with MOT 10 days later. From experience, Pete will have the conversion done in about 7 hours, when plied with regular coffee!
If you are foxing and goosing, come and have a chat, and we'll fill you in
