unsticking the solenoid ?
Hi, Ive been having a lot of starter problems and an engineer told me that the problem is with the plunger in the solenoid sticking... He told me that a sure way to get the van started (1985 1.6 diesel) is to squirt brake cleaner into the air intake box thingy ! Has anybody had a similar experience and is it the right advice? Many thanks in advance for any replies. Tom.
Re: unsticking the solenoid ?
best bet is to replace the part id say. im assuming he is talking about the fuel cut off solenoid on the carb.
these are about £15 from gsf. they you disconnect the wire screw out the old one screw in the new one and reconnect the wire.
if he is talking about the solenoid on the starter motor you can hit it with a hammer to get it moving. solenoids are cheap. if you you replace it yourself remember to disconnect the battery as the starter has a constant live going to it
