just been offered a golf mk2 gtd engine
see from the wiki that it will fit. The bloke wants £80. Is this a fair price? does it drop right in from a golf (no adapter plate etc needed) and whats the best gear box for it (i have a 1.6 d) or is it pointless...oh and is it worth selling my engine (which is a good one). Sorry new to all this and trying to get my head round it!

Re: just been offered a golf mk2 gtd engine
hi mate,
i cant offer all the advice you need but if you let everyone know what you have in the van already and as much detail about everything as you can,
i think theres alot of info on the wiki ^^^^ up there about this kind of stuff, alternatively have a search through the old posts on here and you'll pick up loads of info,
there are some very clued up people on here and many will have done this kind of conversion before but youve got to let them know whats in there at present.
also find out what kind of mileage the golf engines done,
i'm sure theres bits you'll need to source to get the conversion done so it'll be best to start sorting that first, again, theres a lot of people on here who will be able to help you there too,
hope this helps

Re: just been offered a golf mk2 gtd engine
Hi there,
just done this one myself i used an SB engine out of a GTD mk2 golf, I already had a diesel installed so my engine mounts and bell housings and input shafts were all just swap over, I have a 4 speed DK engine from a 2lt Aircooled fitted and its prety good.
As for the engine
http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/forum/topic19160.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
will give you some ideas and just a little envy on how clean it its, mine is nothing like that the hardest thing was sorting out an intercooler and an airbox but fun in the end.
Cheers
