Headlamp

Post by richard.w »

I'm looking for a headlamp, at £40 plus JK are last resort.
I've found one set for RH drive and just a single one for LH drive, sadly on the wrong side of the country, and they don't post glass.
Do RH drive lamps not work with LH drives in this country, JK don't seem to diferentiate

you cannot mix lhd and rhd on the same van

yes they fit! yes they will work! but NO they will not pass the mot and you will have to opposite beam patterns which will cause blinding other drivers and poor visibility!

you can fit a pair of lhd ones but you will need beam benders to pass mot and help other road users! although you will have slightly less vision at night.

I've had one lhd lamp with beam bender and one rhd light for the last 5 years no problem with the mot yet.

My westy has lhd lamps. When I am in the uk and for mot time I tape the headlamps with black tape as in the manual. Never had a problem at mot time.
I recalll when I had my first mot it failed on the headlamp beam. I was worried and cosidered new headlamps. Taped them over and passed mot.

Thanks very much chaps.
Problem being one lamp has corrosion on the reflector, works wonderfully well but casts a shadow on the world.
I've been through MOT's without adapting so must have the correct lamps. When I saw the possibility of two different types, my concern was whether the connections on a LH drive model were different from those on a RH.
You have set my mind to rest, I just need to source another RH lamp.
Many thanks, Richard
