Hi,
This is my first post so apologies if I am a bit clumsy!
My friends and I have a 1.6td jx Westy Joker T25 1988 which we have replaced the engine in (vege recon - runs beautifully), we know it has been dropped before at least once. The engine temp gauge is not working on the dash and the light flashes in the same module intermittently. What ever the temperauture of the engine the glow plugs also stay on for a long time (6 seconds or so) I am beginning to suspect that the wiring to the sensors and switches has been swapped over accidently.
The water is at the minimum level in both water bottles (one above the engine and one under the number plate flap.
I checked the gauge by shorting the wires under module 43 and the temp gauge works.
The four sensors are:
1.2. On the water outlet fixing on the side of the block facing the cab there are two sensors which show a resistance. I think these are for the engine display on the binnacle and the glow plug systems.
3. Near the outlet shown above and slightly above on the block there is a switch / sensor (switch I think)
4. On top of the oil cooler there is a switch / sensor (switch I think)
Can someone confirm I have got these right and more importantly what colour wires go to each one and what there functions are. What might be slightly confusing is I seem to have two yellow/red wires one is slightly larger than the other. If this is not right please tell me what they should be and I will trace back until I get to the right colour.
Thanks in advance for your help

Of course the more observant will know that there is a fifth one at the water feed from the water pump on top of the canted engine. Any help on that one much appreciated as well

Tanner,
here is some info which might help you. It is the wiring colours for most connections on the JX engine. (It is copied froma table and some of the formatting has got lost in the transfer. Let me know if it is not clear.)

JX Engine wiring
Colour (Main &Trace) - Function - Location
Yellow Red Water temperature gauge sensor End of cylinder head
Brown - earth
Brown Red Water pump run-on switch Side of cylinder head?
Brown - earth
Blue White Glow plug temperature sensor Side of cylinder head
Brown - earth
Black - Injection pump fuel cut-off valve (Injection pump)
Yellow - Oil pressure switch (high) Oil filter mounting
Blue black Oil pressure switch (low) End of cylinder head
Red (4mm2) - Glow plug power supply No4 glow plug

Re: 1.6 td jx connex for temp switches and temp sensors
Garyd,
Thank you very much. All diagnosed and working thanks to your help.
In the end it turned out to be the mount for the two temp sensors on the end to the block had been insulated by the gasket and the return path to earth was not there through the block. I have now fitted an earth direct to the mount and everything now works perfectly. Is everything on these vans an earth fault? I am looking to fix the sink water pump electrics yet - guess where I am starting!
Thanks again
Andy
