Jump start power pack

Post by thechubbsdub »

Just bought one of those jump start pack with combined air compressor, light etc. Looked through the instructions and it doesn't mention straight forward battery charging. does anyone know if they can be used to recharge a flat leisure battery?

Looks like you've bought the wrong bit mate. What you've got is used for a jump start as you'd jump start from another vehicle. If you're recharging you'll need a specific battery charger which you plug into the mains then connect to your battery - more expense I'm afraid.

Won't your van charge your leisure battery as you're driving around?

Yes, the van does charge the leisure battery while I am driving around but not while I am on site for a few days. I didn't buy it for that purpose, I bought it for it's normal purpose but wondered if it can also be used to connect via a mains hookup to charge the leisure battery while on site.

No, and totally unsuited to the job I'm afraid. You need a 240v charger and ideally one of the intelligent ones that LIDL and ALDI stock at various times throughout the year. Failing that, an ordinary bog standard charger. However, you could use the booster pack as a spare battery in an emergency but thats all it does to be honest. It has no battery charging capability.

Thanks Covkid, I thought that probably was the case. I did buy one of the Lidl battery chargers a few months back, it worked great for a while and then died. Lidl were very good, gave me a refund without a receipt.
