Waterboxer crank distributor drive & circlip

Post by fix »

The distributor drive that im putting on my crank is slightly chipped and bent on two edges of teeth, not particularly bad put noticeable. Does it really matter that much?

Also how the hell do i get the circlip on the crank without bending it too far? Ive tried using pliers to prise it apart but cant get it on, and dont want to ruin it

Thanks

I'd take the silence as a no/no comment
why would you rebuild something with damaged components and without the tools to fit them,
big f o circlip pliers probably needed for that job, I got my set off ebay snapon blue point not cheap

Thanks for the reply Aidan.

To be honest the gear doesnt look that bad, I have two from running engines and both look similar just not pefect. Though youre right with an engine ive spent a fortune on its not worth skimping so ive ordered a new one.

I dont think circlip pliers make a difference as there arent any locater holes on the circlip so i will try normal pliers, i just dont want to end up bending the circlip too far apart getting it on thats all and didnt know if there was a better method.

if no holes then you use horseshoe grip pliers which are £60 a pair special from knipex or you take a file to a sacrificial set of pliers

Thanks for the replies.

I take it you mean file down the outer ends of the pliers so they have some grip on them? I would definately rather do that than buying horse shoe pliers!

Cheers for the tip about masking tape ricicles i will put some on.

I got the new gear from vwh today, and to be honest its abit rough at the edges of the teeth like the old ones just not as bad. I guess its just how they are and not perfect.

Managed to get the circlip on with a screw driver, put masking tape round the crank and gently prised the circlip open and up the crank. Thanks for the help :D
