Newbie 'hi' and Mystery Plug

Hi All,

Firstly.. new to T3 ownership having picked up my '86 1.9(DG) panel van (Christened 'Jasper' by my better half) this weekend. Thanks for an awesome source of info

There are a few things I need to work on - but these are in hand thanks to searching on here. One thing that is a mystery, is the plug in the picture below - currently swinging free, plugged into nothing at the front of the engine bay behind the alternator. Is it a diagnostic plug or similar, or is it something that should really be plugged in somewhere?! (Apologies for the rubbish phone pic - the plug has three 'prongs')

Its for a "special" VW tool.. thats not really a lot of use to be fair.. so put it back on the alt and forget about it...
