more symptoms, the glow plug light comes on if you turn on the heater. Turn both on and it comes on even more, its not solid on either but a flickr on off. turn on the indicator and it flashes on and off. I suspect an electrical fault but I don't know where. Any budding auto electricians out there with some good answers?

When clutch was replaced, was earthing strap on front of gearbox refitted to clean metal? Check earth crowns under dash.

would an earth fault really lead to such madness!

yes!

and it also points to the battery earth lead, as its a derv, the battery earth is on the engine bay, so using the brake lights commonly makes the temp gauge rise, or drop.... clean all earths....

Thanks to all who helped, covkid you were right, a little sanding of the terminal and the earth was sound. Temp guage and all other electrics back to normal.

Until next time thanks
