Turbo rebuild - any advice?

Post by Hoss »

Hello all,
I've found a rebuild kit online and am thinking of saving myself a small fortune and doing it myself. I don't think my turbo problem is terminal as it pulls fine with a bit of smoke.

Have any of you any advice to make this easier on me? :D

it's a 1.6TD by the way!

I tried this a few years ago. Marked up the wheels. Reassembled exactly as it came apart. It has whistled due to out-of-balance ever since. I wouldn't do it again.

Turbo repairers can dynamically balance the assembly to very fine tolerances.

It's one of the very few jobs I'd get done by a pro.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

hmmmmm, I found this on another forum:

Cheers guys I know this may seem silly but I have to fully explore it before I reject it as an option - a refurb would be at least £200.

This is the kit I found on Ebay:
