master cylinder

my brake master cylinder has started leaking, it has no servo, and according to hanes the only difference between one with a servo and one without is the primary piston is different, i can't find anywhere that sells one for a van with no servo, can i use the one meant for a servo, can i swap the primary piston? any other ideas

Are you sure it has NO servo ? I very much doubt you would be able to stop one of these vans without one fitted as standard....

Of course you would be able to stop - how do you think we stopped vehicles before the advent of servos!!!!!!!!

I've never seen one myself but from other posts I understand some early examples did have 'non servo' setups.
The master cylinder is likely to be quite different to give higher fluid pressure without a servo. I doubt it's interchangeable BUT....I wonder if a servo/master cylinder from a later model can be retro-fitted, brake lines may need changing? I wondering wether both systems use the same brake pipe setup an in: dual line/split? retro fitting may be the best option long term tho.

Divers tend to wear wellies when in the water working now! though before in olden times yes heavy boots were worn

defo no servo, (1979 originally 1600 although 2 litre now) according to hanes the only difference is the primary piston. i've been told you can recondition master cylinder anyone done this??

Used to do it all the time years ago, no problem if you can get the seals etc and the bore is fit for use.
