Painting rust patches Rustoleum combi-color

Post by alkers »

Hi, wondering if anyone can help out. I have been trying to look on the Rustoleum website, but can't seem to find a colour chart. I am trying to sort out some rusty patches on my van, and hopefully the roof.
Does anyone know if they would have a colour to match my beautiful brown that resembles a shade of rust or sh*!, and the beige shade on top? I don't want to paint the whole van.
Otherwise, can anyone recommend a brand that does do these classic shades.
Also it says can be applied directly to rust - does that mean I shouldn't prime?

Thanks!

Oh dear, none of those look like a good enough match to just patch it.
But if I don't rub down the whole van - yet paint it all, will I end up with patches anyway from where the paint is thinner over the treated areas and darker over the existing paint bits? The video suggests you need about 4-5 coats.

You won't get an exact match in Rustoleum's range since VW had their own unique shades. If you want a match, you'll need it mixed professionally and that won't be cheap. Rustoleum is very dense so covers in about 2-3 coats. Read through the roller thread for more info.

maybe you could put this in the wiki,

just to add, places will mix up according to the paint codes, because what i have found is that if you have paint on your van that's 20 years old, you might want to colour match to that specific colour (places can colour match to a sample of metal from the van), because the paint that you get from the paint code will not be the same shade due to uv and the sun changing the colour. so you might wanna bear that in mind when choosing your colour.
