Are you thinking Subaru?

Post by syncropete »

First post in the Gambia........... Hi to all etc :D
Anyone considering fitting a subaru motor in their van should think about these points.
1) I am a mechanic and dislike getting my hands too dirty outside work hours. Modifying yes - fixing no.
2) Since fitting my 3.3 subaru engine it has covered many varied miles in the uk (RJES bellhousing done 100,000 total - was on 2.2) with only minor clutch issues (since modified) - Go with turbo clutch 2.5 +
3) It had a cambelt and oil change in the uk, was driven here passing through part of the sahara dessert, got sunk in a sand dune in blistering temperatures and I have not added 1ml of engine oil and its still clean. I have changed a fuel filter here in the Gambia. Its driven every day for work and can sometimes be sat in traffic in 40 degree heat
4) Lots of t3s here, lots of diesels, lots of broken diesel engines.
5) Richard at RJES knows what he is talking about and supplies excellent products. Smallcar etc parts - I have had problems with - namely cracking exhaust headers and poorly welded brackets.
6) The power is phenomenal in the 3.3, amazing in the 2.5 and pokey in the 2.2 and good in the 2.0.
7) It can outrun an irate gambian policeman on a sym 125 bike :ok
ps if running modified sump ensure you have full capacity - dont just shorten it !
