Hi there.
I've just replaced my 1.6D CS engine and 8L gearbox with a 1Y and APP gearbox. Everything is ok apart from I'm having problems with the gear linkage. When I put the van into reverse the the gear shift joint (ball bit on the side of the gearbox) slips out of the selector lever (cup bit at the end of the gear linkage) and the van is then stuck in reverse.
Does anybody know why this is happening? It all worked fine on the old gearbox.
Regards
Scotty

Re: Gear change issues
Thanks Aidan, I had a feeling that might be the case. So if I got a selector lever for a petrol and fitted it then it'll work ok or is there anything else I need to change?
Would that also explain why I having difficulties finding some of the other gears?

Re: Gear change issues
no you are ok you had a diesel to start with so linkage is right, it's something else in the set up or a worn ball or length wrong or something got bent, did you use the diesel gearbox mount ? if not then that'll be the problem must all be diesel

Re: Gear change issues
Yeah used the same mount and used the gear shifter from the old gearbox. Have found out that there should be a rubber bellows on that linkage, but not sure how much difference that would make, didn't have it on the old setup.
Maybe I should get the van up on a ramp and check that non of the linkage arms have been bent.
