Need a New engine - Any ideas??

Post by richsaund »

Hi, Just bought a camper/hightop with a knackered engine, i have seen a lot of forums regarding different engine conversions and am a bit confused. Really i would like a reasonably powered engine that is pretty cheap. I previously owned a vw caddy 1.9 sdi which had an amazing engine and was wondering whether that would fit, would i need any extra components and how difficult are they to fit?

I would also be grateful if you could supply some names of engine's that are relatively easy to fit to my t25

:ok

Hello bud, Caddy engine will fit. What parts you require will mainly depend on what engine is in there at the moment. If its diesel already most of the parts you need are already in your van. Hope this is helpful. There are loads of folk on here that have changed to the 1.9 diesel, So if you need any help/ info just ask. With regards to time my conversion took me a couple of weekends and was a piece of cake.

The aey engine int the caddy van is fly by wire so either the pump will need changed or a lot of work to make it work!

My van has an AEF that I believe came from a late 90's caddy. I think the main difference between the AEF and the 1Y are that it has a lucas pump and the dip stick is on the wrong side of the block. Goes well enough, surprisingly well actually and I'm getting 35mpg in a hightop!

by the looks of it you can often find these engines with low miles in skoda's , I was looking at one along with other engines yesterday for a chap thats after an engine conversion , if he chooses the low mile skoda engine I'll rebuild the pump to work with cable , will have to check to see what other parts are needed :)
