Scooter tow bar rack help, please.
Hi, I want to fit a scooter carrier to my towbar on my T25 been looking at a Dave Cooper bolt on type but worried about whether towbar can take weight. The scooter is a Vespa and is about 120 Kg. I've looked on the Wiki and there is a post saying a Syncro Trailer nose weight limit is 75Kg (this seems a little low), has anyone fitted a scooter carrier or could tell me whether the van will be safe?

Re: Scooter tow bar rack help, please.
you would be better off with a trailer or something like this but i doubt it would be ok for the scooter as it could damage the scooters gearbox on a long run

As T'onion says but stick the back wheel in and secure the steering.

Thanks but a trailer will not work for me as I use the fast ferries from Guernsey and need to keep length of vehicle under 6.5m. I have seen these motorbike carriers on cars and 4x4 surely a 2 tonne T25 should be ok to carry one. This is what I was looking at: http://www.davecooper.co.uk/bike_racks.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I have tracked down a second hand Witter towbar that fits the larger plastic bumpers but need to find out the max downward weight I can bolt to it. I guess they have a serial number on the tow bars or part number - I could then speak with Witter direct if no one here has done this before.

Hi i had my other halfs 125cc liberty (same engine as vespa) on the back of my van and had no issues, We did motor way miles and around town, was so good to have the scooter with us get to see alot more around you and can leave the van set up while you make the beer & Bacon run !
I also have the rack for sale, as she no longer has the bike !!

Re: Scooter tow bar rack help, please.
My brother just came back from the Peterborough camping show today with a leaflet for a very novel motor cycle carrier.
It fits square arcross the back but has a hydraulic loading system and support wheel.
Even with a large motorcycle fitted (500cc plus) it actually only puts 20KG on the back of the van, all the rest of the weight is transfered to a sigle trailing wheel.
Very compact and ideal...I would have thought, for reducing the weight on the existing axle and suspension.
It wasn't cheap......
If you interested I can get the details posted later.

I have a Dave Cooper motorbike rack which i use on the back of the Camper, its easy to use and load with the scooter even better if you have some one holding the front brake as you lift it.
I have carried a P200x with no problems and my mate has used it to carry a MX bike.

I've used a dave cooper rack for years with my px125 and never had a problem.
It is slightly over the recommended limits - but it worked.
Theres a nack to getting them on and off - but easy once you have mastered it.
We've only got the monkey bike now, so havent got any issues with weight....

Cheers Ringo, the rack you have is it the type with two slots for wheels or the trough type? Also do you have a ladder on the back of your t25?

Yeah with someone holding the front brake its so easy to get the scooter on roll it on and then it piviots into place, theres a built in front wheel clamp for extra support,
