oil pump removal

oil pump removal
Is it possible to get to the oil pump with the engine in.
I have the fan housing off and the oil cooler and can see the oil pump behind the upper engine mount (the one with the rubbers on). Would it be possible to support the engine and remove this engine mount?
And if so what bolts would I need to undo as there are quite a few. There are two that go through to the block and at least 4 that go downwards and look like they hold the mount to the main engine brace

or is it possible to test the oil pump insitu. I have clear access to the two holes that the oil cooler conects to.
I was thinking of sticking a pipe in the out hole and tunring the engine over a couple of times

WHy? has it got low oil pressure? Have you tested it?
Low oil pressure usually means the the main bearings are worn out.. or poss the relief valve is leaking/spring gone weak.. oil pumps are generally pretty reliable..

Ok dont like the sound of the main bearings going

Well its related to all my other posts insofar as the engine starts and runs at idle for 40 mins and then the oil light comes on. Engine is bloody hot and I susspect that it has gotten too hot and thinned the oil, hence the low pressure.
All tinware in place and cooling flaps fine
I have had a leak from the oil cooler seals which I have replaced but havent run it yet. I havent strobed it yet, gonna do that on Monday

Page 17.2 in bentley clearly shows it...

But again.. have you checked the actual oil pressure at idle and 2000 rpm (with oil at 80 deg)
Oil light should go out with 2-6.5 psi (2psi would be a little low in opinion) at idle
2000 rpm needs to be min of 29 psi...
No point in changing relief valve and oil pump if its delivering more than the bently states..

But again.. have you checked the actual oil pressure at idle and 2000 rpm (with oil at 80 deg)

Anyone got an idea of what sort of tool is required to removed the oil relief valve? My screw drivers seem rather flimsy relative to width of the slot in the head and cannot get enough leverage using a 50p piece (fits the slot very well).
I hunting for reasons why my oil pressure is low - had a gauge on it, under revs the pressure is fine - about 37psi on motorway, but as soon as the revs drop to idle after being at high revs for 10 miles it goes low (about 4) and oil light comes on. However, when the van is driven around town for an hour of stop start fun the oil pressure stays consistent.
On another note, how many threads would you expect in the sump? Mine was threaded a while ago, and re-tapped. I noticed earlier that iv got about 2 right at the top, doesn't feel right, then measured the plug (cut off spark plug) from measurements I figured it will sit 8 mm proud in the bottom of the sump.
Anyone know the clearance between the bottom of the sump and the nearest mechanical component in the engine? i.e. I presume that its more than the 8mm my sump plug is poking out by.

A chisel worked for me, but there is very little that can go wrong with these things
