Bluebird customs R&R bed questions

Post by Cruz »

Musing over upgrading our flimsy looking Leisuredrive bed and have a couple of questions

1. How did you bolt the bed to the van floor? Backing plates etc

2. What designs have people used as a rear bed base for the Bluebird Customs R&R bed?

3. Also how did you fix the foam to the bed boards?

The hinges are bolted to a steel angle plate bolted to each side of the ramp, I drilled and bolted the bottom section through the floor using 8mm bolts and large, thick washers under the floor.

There is a 4" deep space above the engine bay, I have 2 fixed sections containing the service jack and wheel brace and the safe (bolted through the floor of course) and a lift out section above the bay itself which contains a flat-cased tool set and numerous small spares on the spare accelerator cable bag

The original foams on ours were so manky they were ditched immediately on heath grounds. We use a 2nd row Velle GL seat section bolted to the boards when using the van as a car and replace the upright section with foam when using it as a camper.

Hope this helps.
