What colour please

Post by karl40 »

Hello all, i had a moment of madness and tried to paint the interior of 1983 Devon pop top with rustolem and a brush. I am blaming it on the bad weather and all that new paint i just could'nt wait to start. Well its not quite how i would like it and i am thinking of buying a few cans of spray to hide the "cock" up. Its only on one door and the exterior test went great thanks to a roller application, but inside there was no room for the roller. The hand book states the colour is beige, but this could be described as toffee coloured with a black Devon sticker on the doors and rear tailgate. Anyone know what the closest colour or RAL reference is and where i could buy it, please help lost sleep over my "cock"-up.

Doors are best removed if doing inside, that way you can use roller on the areas that show. Rusoleum isn't great using a brush except for very bottom sills possibly. If brush is only option, use foam brushes and dab paint on. Is yours that mushroom soup colour?

I am going to take the door off this time round, your right it would be easier. Just got carried away with all that new paint, the outside went very well and will update the thread with a few pictures when its done. I not sure i would say the colour is mushroom soup, its more brown than grey. Its more of a pale sandy colour, is that what you where thinking of.

ok, i take it back - chicken soup with a few mushrooms in it. Yep think you'll have probs matching it exactly unless you pay up for having it mixed. I didn't do the inside of my doors either but thats my plan too for following week. Definately easier with them off and quick to roller to be honest. Awkward areas are ok with foam brushes though as they don't really show anyway. Straight brush isn't as good (too thick that way and you'll get shocking runs).

I think the colour would have been Samos Beige, i managed to find some old Devon moonraker brochures on the internet and that seems to be the nearest colour available at the time. Your right again no one seems to sell it now, i will have to try and find the nearest RAL colour and go with that. I will keep you posted on the project "cock"-ups and all. Cheers Karl.

Don't forget, I secured a 10% discount for 80/90 members through rustoleum uk, but you need to ring them to get the discount.
