fridge fuse (240v)

Fridge has always worked on Gas/12v and 240v until this weekend. Gas and 12v fine but not 240v. Checked the socket under the sink and that gets power. Is there a seperate fuse anywhere. The plug hasn't got one (French!) and my 240v sockets all work fine. Any ideas? Ta

PS. Westy 1981 so I think the fridge is an RM something. I also have a small whole in the front near the switches that is filled with bluetack so maybe this is the pilot light as I have never seen one!

Check the 240volt cartridge heater on the the back of the fridge.

If you mean the tube heating element I think I have found that is the problem. Now just need to find out where i can get one!!

Ashbridge told me in Dec these are now obsolete so they can't get them. Still available from Gunzl in Germany though.

However I managed to get hold of this element from ebay to fit my RM184 in a 1983 Westy and looks like he still has some left...

It's not the exact match for the RM184 as it is rated a little lower 75W @ 220V rather than 85W @ 220V. But on the UK 240V system you will more than compensate for that loss in power. The only other difference was that the leads were slightly shorter but still able to reach the choc block connector on the top of the fridge where the old one terminates. The element itself is identical in size. My fridge has been working fine with this element and the fridge thermostat turned to about the half way position so plenty of reserve.

Hi I am having the very same problem, is there a test to see if its the element, mines a RM212f I am reluctant to buy one if its not that whats wrong.. really appreciate any help THanks

Get someone with a multimeter to do a continuity test on it

I did this test on mine and it it was ok, also showed 240v going to it but didn't heat up so even if this test passes it does not guarantee the element is working. I spoke to a dometic engineer who thinks the 95w one will do so I'll get one and see if it works. Hopefully I will just have to turn the thermostat down a bit!

Back to the fuse location, I used to have an Electrolux 3 way fridge with a fuse behind a twist off round cover on the switch panel; could that be whats filled with blu tack ?

Yes it is, I found this out once I had removed the fridge but broke it so now bypassed the fuse (there is one further down the 12v supply to the leisure battery. It is though a 12v fuse, not a 240v

Eddie dont worry about the fridge. Just get yourself along to the Shrewsbury meet this weekend. Its gonna be bloody freezing anyway.

I can't Martin, to get the fridge out I had to remove half the cabinets and wiring/plumbing etc and now just started fitting an rcd/consumer unit and still waiting on hearing about an element and there is NO way I'm putting it all back together before the fridge is fixed!

Did I mention the bumpers are off and on the floor...................
