Cutting out

Hi,

Just limped home 70 miles with the van stalling whenever i put the clutch in or the revs dropped low, some intresting roundabouts on the way home


Just spent a pile gettin her goin properly with a new exhaust and all, first trip away and it all goes wrong !


Any ideas or usual suspects, make it be cheap !

I am not familiar with the 1.9DF but I have had the same trouble with 1600 engine on my Bay which has a Solex carb similar to the one I believe is fitted to your engine, and the electric cut off valve was at fault.
It screws into the body of the carb and is supplied with 12v when ignition is on. Purpose to stop engine running on when key is turned off (on Aircooled anyway)
Should click as ignition is turned on and off. Mine just needed a clout to free it up as it had been stood for some time. I seem to remember a recent post along these lines.
Looks like a cylinder with one electrical connection on my Bay.

Hi Mark,
i have a similar problem with my 1.9dg when its running on petrol. I've been told i need to put a new pierburg choke pull down unit it. haven't got around to fitting it yet, as there is no urgency as it runs on gas most of the time. Could be the same problem as yours though maybe? Extremely annoying, when you get to roundabouts!!!!

Just noticed the airboxy thing that sits on top of the carb was a bit loose, which could have probably been sucking in a bits of dirt and stuff . . I think !?

Looks a bit grimey around the edges when I took it off but nothing awful. Could dirt down in there somewhere be causin my probs
