JX Exhaust and engine things

Post by Essex Nige »

Well on friday my tailpipe fell off... so looked on JK's website to get an idea on price, however their picture doesn't look anything like mine, their's shows a bolt on back box with bolt on tailpipe but i don't have that and i have a wide bit on the exhaust downpipe which in again a new one doesn't and instead of flanges bolting together i have something different.... i'm confuddled... have a look at the pictures and see what you think...

Personally I wouldn't buy an exhaust of JK, get a decent one of Brickwerks.

The blue thing looks suspiciously like a diff lock actuator; not sure about the wire holding it in place though. Yes it should have 2 pipes "one to blow & one to suck", operated by vacuum pressure from a tank underneath the van. There's a good article on testing the vacuum etc in the downloads section of the Syncronauts page.
What a long strange trip it's been

 Thought it looked in an odd place

If I remember correctly, when I got my exhaust, there are 2 pipes that are Syncro specific (I think it was 2) that I had to get from VAG, if that's any help

That's the same as my JX setup even down to the "diesel Kat" in the down pipe.

you have the late exhaust with a cat in it, baxter for decent exhaust parts :ok
the vac unit is probably a central door lock actuator being used as a vacuum advance on the pump, bit of a bodge, sorry I don't do diesel so can't be more help

That blue thingy is some sort of bodge.

What should be there is an actuator like this:

(this is what converts turbo pressure into more fuel  )

And probably part of the reason why you are using so much fuel..

Probably some form of home brew cruise contol actuator.

Only Syncro tailpipe is specific, the downpipe and back box are the same.

Just looked at the picture properly, that central locking part is being used as the LDA, not a good idea.

LDA's are a fortune from Bosch, and currently supply problems, I've been waiting for stock for about 6 months, I'm told they are due into the UK as of the 16th of this month after a recent call to Bosch, so new ones should be available again soon.
