Handbrake mechanism sticking
Hi all, been told my handbrake mechanism is sticking on on the nearside rear brake ( wheel is stuck solid when handbrake is off but after a couple of blows to the drum it spins freely until the handbrake is engaged and released and then its stuck solid again), i,ve checked the wiki and this forum but found nothing on this problem, could anyone tell me if this can be sorted fairly simply or is it a case of having to dismantle the whole rear brake assembly and if so is that a complicated job, any light on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You don't need brake hassles, on any level. Yep, strip it down, give it all a good clean. Not a difficult job but easier on a warmer day for sure. May be a good opportunity to service them properly. Now I just replace slave cylinders automatically if I have to remove hubs to deal with brakes. They're cheap enough and it makes sense to start fresh each time.

Re: Handbrake mechanism sticking
Cheers for the reply covkid
I will be getting the brakes overhauled at a later date but the van is'nt actually on the road yet as im still restoring the body, the thing is im having to take it to my nextdoor neighbours every saturday for various bits of welding and he is a mile down the road so i was just hoping to be able to free up the mechanism so i can get to the neighbours and back without damaging the brake ( i know once freed i should leave the handbrake off but easier said than done as as soon as i park it up up comes the handbrake followed by oh sh*t)
.
Was just hoping to free up the mechanism to save me taking the wheel of and banging the drum everytime i go to move it ( the brakes in general feel great although i will still get them overhauled before she goes legal.

sounds like the handbrake cable seizing.
when you have the drum off disconect the cable in side the drum.
just remember to brick the wheels
