One for the SA clique...and 5 cylinder fetishists!

Looking at the pics of the '99 engine bay, there's a module sat to the right of the coil. Is this a VAG cruise control unit?
I can just make out a 5/6/7 way "pan-pipe" connector next to it. I've got that plug in the '95, but not connected to anything :(
It's had an aftermarket cruise control fitted (not tested it yet or found the ecu for it) which has a piggyback cable and vacuum capsule.
:D It's the ABS unit. 6K0 919 506A.

Thanks for that. There's a 4 pin rectangular socket on the lower steering column cowl too. The label on the wiring to it mentions "service" and I thought that was the diagnostic port :?
The loom has had a small mod to use a unipart coil too.

The one on the column is probably an old immobilizer plug.

I'll have to see where the wiring runs off to in due course. Running it as a daily to find out what does or doesn't work. Getting to grips with the whole "bit of Golf 2 here, bit of Audi 80 there" build.
I do need an exhaust downpipe gasket urgently but haven't a clue which 5cyl. one will fit. Any advice as you're the man

Thanking you both, gents!
(I'd missed this one - must pay more attention)
Thought that I should check the spark timing on the 2.6 before it goes into Gasure (in June!) and being as the info is a touch hard to aquire...does anyone know what it should be?

Nice try Damien, but it's for K-jetronic (mechanical) and I'm fortunate enough to have Motronic with a proper ecu. Don't know if the timing's the same or not. More interweb rummaging required...

While trying to identify the colour of the '95 with Damien, I've found that the earlier US Eurovan (T4) had a 2.5 litre 5 cyl motor which at first glance looks remarkably like the same engine VWSA used in the big window T3 vans...

Silverbullet a friend had an early T4 2.5 auto and like you say looks not to different , although many parts will be , some volvo's had a similar engine fitted , another friend has a ford (focus RS ?) and that uses a later VW 5 cyl

:D think we must have a 5cylinder fetish not had a SA bus as yet but if I go to my parents on the drive there'll be 3.1td 5cyl jeep + T4 2.5TDi , fathers Mercedes G Wagen converted to later spec 5cyl 2.9D , brothers Landy TD5 , and sometimes a Hugglunds ( merc 5cyl ) and Pinzgauer ( VW 5cyl )
As may not know the G wagen + pinzgauer and surprisingly my jeep were all built at the Steyr Puch factory that built the Syncro's :D

The Pinzgauer factory was just down the road from me in Guildford - we have a plastics supplier next door and there's still a fenced off yard round the back with a few R&D 6x6 vehicles left to rot in it :( One has full windows like a 'velle 8) I saw one a while back at a services kittedout for greenlaning - made a syncro look weedy
As for the Haggelund :D is it a tractor/trailer combo? Got any pics - nice to see something a bit different!
PS I don't think there is any VW / Dagenham parts crossover...bit unlikely...thought that all those 5 pots were Volvo.

- Very interesting , I think BAE took over the pinz production and moved the factory
 well the chap thought it was a volvo too ( like the T5 turbo) which I thought a bit strange because that was a VW engine
Brother gets to work on the Hugglunds through work ( Ex REME ) lately had two closed bodies and a real tool closed front with tipping rear unit and Hyab type jib not got a pic of this one yet others on home computer :D
