Re Aircooled motor and the thermostat thingy

Post by ghost123uk »

Hi folks

I am helping a friend with his Aircooled motor.

Re the bellows thing, that acts like a thermostat by opening and closing a flap in the fan housing.

His has been disconnected since he owned the van so it gives maximum cooling all the time.

He reckons most folks do this because the system is inherently prone to going wrong.

I say he should fix it all up so it works properly.

Am I

A = Dead right
B = Perhaps he should put it right, but not that important.
C = He is right and most folks do disconnect them with no bad result.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

Fair comment Jason, the good news for him is his bellows look in good nick.

I reckon it might be worth dunking them in some hot water to check for leaks though before carrying on :)
