Regulator part number

Post by Brymoyes »

Hi there i have a 1983 1.9l water cooled. UK supplied but now living in New zealand.

I have been having trouble with charging and have now identified that although i have 6 amps going to the engine via that nasty spaghetti junction of a black box. i have only 2 amps to the starter moter and consequently the battery.

i believe it is the regulator. i have looked in the tech specs pages 27.20 Fig 3a small print 27-393 Thats the baby that I have. my contacts are 8mm if that and reading suggests they start at 13mm with a 5mm wear tollerance.

seems logical thats my problem. HOWEVER !!

part number 1 197 311 090 Bosch doesnt seem to exist. I know JK do one but I was hoping to find the part number so I can buy one here in NZ rather than waiting for delivery etc.

can any one help with the i assume generic part number. many thanks.

voltage regulator for our alternators is 068 903 803 DX , that's an exchange part from VW so you could try your local friendly VW dealer, except that in NZ you don't really have them probably one in Auckland and one in Wellington and one in Christchurch, it'll be back order to germany etc..

quickest source for you is probably http://www.vw-classicparts.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But any good bosch agent should be able to find the current bosch part number and obtain it for you non exchange

you lucky person being down there, jealous :ok

Thanks for the advice, I have whipped it out and will tread the local tarmac today and see what i can find.

There is still a rat race down here but it just goes a lot slower and we seem to have a lot more time to sit about drinking wine and beer and talking about our vans.

:) :ok
