Paint Colour Matching

We bought our van finally in November only to have some numpty hit it whilst parked outside our house. I tried to find a VW specialist who could fix her but we had to use the garage recommended by the insurance company. They now can't colour match the the paint!! Arrgghh - is there somewhere I could find out colour codes for 1984 Westies - it is the burgundy colour van, any help much appreciated!

Great thanks for this - apparently they have had a specialist in who can't match it!? Worried now - I will pass this on to them to see if it helps.

also worth noting.the paint on your van is twenty odd years old.so even if you get the correct paint it might not be a 100% match..

Ask them if they have a paint supplier with a spectrascope. My local paint supply shop has one and can match colours from a one inch square sample of anything any colour.

I'm going to call the garage and check progress tomorrow and give them codes from the website you mentioned, the van was resprayed when I bought it so is it possible they didn't use the right colour or a genuine VW colour? Looks like marsala red but I think my van is a deeper version??

as the above say, cant be a very good garage if they cant match the paint! using the original paint codes is no use as it will make the new paint look like it did when it was new but the rest is 20 odd years old with a bit of sun bleaching etc.the place where i get my paint i just took in the petrol flap(71 beetle) and they made a litre of paint to match the colour as it is now not what it looked like in 1971! so it all looks the same not a nice new shiny bit

IF it is a non o.e. paint then to colour match will be problematic. ICI offer an exact colour matching service, I even think its free but it takes up to 4 weeks. I have a customer with a similar problem I am trying to sort at the moment. As of course ICI require a part of ur van with the paint on it!!!

I would think, if its an insurance job and not your fault then if no one can paint match your current paint, you should be getting a full respray in a colour of your choice, given that it is you who has been inconvenienced by this accident?

the place that did my beetle paint did it while i waited was a 40 min wait but they did it on the spot, i agree with the above if they cant match it they should paint the whole bus
