Ideas for better tyre clearance on rear?

Post by onecogwonder »

Having some syncro fun out in the local lanes at the moment but have noticed certain combinations of cack and stone build up horribly on the rear suspension arm and my fattish BFG's are going to get damaged/worn unless I hop out and give the build up a poke to free it all every now and then. I have around 4 or 5mm clearance on the very inside edge of the rear tyres which isn't too good, ideally I would splash out on a set of 205 or 215s, but apart from use some spacers (which I don't like the idea of and will also bring the outer edge of the tyre too close to the arch) there doesn't seem to be much I can do to get more clearance.

Anybody know if it is "acceptable" to remove the protruding seam on the inside of the trailing arm and weld plates back in to keep the strength and give more clearance?

Hi Aidan

ET31, wheels are 6J x 15 merc steels, tyres are 30x9.5x 15 BFG all terrains. Somebody recommended I could remove the seam but really the tyre selection is the critical part.
