New clutch

Post by dajwid »

Just had my gearbox changed and asked them to change the clutch at the same time as had a lot of travel before engaging. Apparently a new one was fitted but it still seems the same. Not slipping but I would have expected very little travel now.
I am not a mechanic so in simple terms. Could it be a cable adjusty type thingy, hydrolic fluid and all is OK. or what I think and I got charged for a job not done.
Remember I live in Poland where that is normal.

Any help would be great, don't want to cause a problem then look a "idiot" in the garage.

clutch

What type of clutch have you got?

I'm guessing it's hydraulic, unless you are a Bay type man?

OOPS! Just noticed your avatar!

You can make some adjustment to the slave cylinder rod, or you can alter the arm position on the splined x shaft, but, you'll have to ascertain how much is actual free play at the X shaft and/or push rod first, don't forget you have to have some free play at the release bearing end when the clutch is diss-engaged.

Sounds to me that your garage has just swopped the clutch and not checked the rod or arm for excess free play either before or after fitting the new clutch assembly.

You should have something like 50-60 mm free travel at the pedal before the slave cylinder comes into play, and the clutch should start to bite when the pedal is about a third of the way off the floor.

Hope you get it sorted.

Bleed the clutch.

Pull the boot off the slave cylinder to make sure it's not leaking.

Bleed the clutch again.
