Westfalia Kitchen Control Panel Repair

Post by purplecrocs »

Need to repair the brown metal control panel on my Westfalia kitchen unit. It looks like it's rusted or the original brown coating has come away. Is it best to take it right back to the metal and respray? Or just spray straight on top? Also, any tips on a decent colour match? Cheers!

Someone recommended peugeot cafe noir and said it was within a few shades. The best was Hammerite mid brown but is no longer produced. This was on Brickwerks but I can't find the thread.

I will be making this repair very soon. I intend on removing rust and feathering in old paint and a light rub over to key before respraying.

You could maybe have it dipped and then powder coated? You'd lose the writing but Baxter does a sticker to go on the control panel.

Yep, take it down the powder coaters and they will sand blast the parts you want doing and match the colour. Its quite cheap to have it done. I have a grey westy interior and to have the front cooker panel done, the panel under the fridge, the grill behind the cooker and sink, the grill next to the table when folded away, and the panel that goes at the ebber outlet was £30. Its much harder wearing than paint and will last you another 20 years. The only regret i have is that i forgot to take the front table leg too. Baxter does all the replacement stickers and in english too.....

Hay dude I had the same problem and have managed to find a near perfect colour match. I found it off the shelf at B+Q its plasti-kote gloss super, chestnut brown. All I did was give the pannel a good rub down with rough grade sand paper and a few coats of red primer and the a couple of coats of the plasti-kote, came up a treat, only thing is i lost the westfalia decals on the front . Hope this helps mate :D

I took out all the metal bits from my interior and took them to a powder coating place locally. A few quid later and they look factory-fresh. Thoroughly recommended....
