When? All the time or when cold? Do the tappets shut up when warm? More likely to be something to do with carb or carbs..

Carburettor....a smoother and less pronounced holding back jerk'
Ignition fault...a more pronounced 'on/off' jerk.

I have a 2.1i petrol (DJ)
I happens when the engine is warm, it is like a held back jerk for a second or 2.
Someone said it could be tappets, but I was skeptical so I need a second opinion
