T25 starts, revs high, the stops! WHY!?
Hi there, my 82 2l Aircooled is giving me hassle after being stood for a while over the winter. it takes a while to get it started and when it does it just revs really high for 4 seconds or so and then cuts out- then it wont start again for 5 minutes of so and does the same again!-urhh!
any ideas? (be gentle with me)
cheers guys

Oh no- has it stumped everyone? I've ben thiinking and think it must be somepart of the ignition which is making it rev highly, does anyone have any suggestions on what i should replace first?

switch wont make it rev, check the throttle cable and carbs, return spring etc.

Re: T25 starts, revs high, the stops! WHY!?
hi everyone, finally got another chance to look at the van and managed to get the old dear to push the acclerator up and down (engine off), while I looked down the carbs and the 'flaps' work working fine and not getting stuck?
can anyone help, im really stumped, what else can make the engine accelerate/rev apart from the accelerator?!!

I think you're unlikely to get much response on this as its impossible to diagnose remotely. You really need someone local to you to take a look. Have you messed with dizzy? Choke stuck on high? Was it working fine before? So many questions - see what I mean?

Re: T25 starts, revs high, the stops! WHY!?
hi covkids, thanks for the reply, thought it was a bit of long shot but worth a go just incase anybody else had had the same problem. the chokes work/heat up fine and i have touched the dizzy, think its because its been stood all winter, thants why i thought it would be something electical, i dont why but im drawn to those to black boxes mounted on the left side of the engine bay connected to the coil/dizzy but im not sure exactly what they do and if they could be the problem?
Re: T25 starts, revs high, the stops! WHY!?
One of the black boxes is the idle stabilisation unit and the other is the ignition amplifier. You can disconnect the idle stabilisation unit and connect the two connectors together which will remove it from the equation. Are you getting a spark at all the plugs? If so then the amp is probably ok. When you move the throttle bar and the carb flaps move does it squirt petrol it?

thankyou so much for the reply, definately getting some sparks as it does fire up, but havent check them all indivdually, (shall i?) yes if you pull the bar they carbs squirt fuel?

Re: T25 starts, revs high, the stops! WHY!?
Try removing the air filter, covering the tops of the carbs with your hand (get a good seal) and then try and start it. This was the only way I could get mine to start after it had been sat for several months. Once new fuel had been pulled through I could slowly uncover the carbs and it was happy to run. Now a couple of pumps of the accelerator and it starts fine (even through I have no choke).
