igntion amplifier

Post by umgum »

this is going to sound daft as i think i already know the answer

got to my van the otherday and it wouldn`t start i have 2 ignition amplifer`s one connected and one not both are old
anyway the van was sort of starting and then not so i swapped them over and it was a bit better but still didn`t start
so swapped them back did this a few times then it statred

tried it again today and wouldn`t start again swapped them over tried to start it then swapped them back and it started do i need a new one or could it be something else

engine has only done about 20 miles after having a full rebuild

Could be anything really... prob not the amps as they generally work or not.. is the ISU connected still? the black box near the amp with 2 round plugs on it, disconnec the plugs from the box and join them together.. you need to start witht he basics and make sure there are sparks, fuel etc etc....

I'd say the ign amps thing is a red herring, unless there is a wiring fault somewhere.. why swapping them back and forth wouldnt make any sense.. generally they either work or they dont..

Twin carbs generally dont have any choke mech.. do yours? if not then I'd say thats more of the issue.. starting technique...
Do you "pump" the accelerator a few times before starting? and are you just expecting it to start and run without any intervention from you?

no chokes but using an electric fuel pump and regulator set at 1.5bar (was told i needed it running big carbs)
tried pumping pedal but makes no differance

carbs have been tuned and balanced but not sure if they have the right jets in them think are 1900 jets

new coil, leads, plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm new battery
