C V joints

Post by necromonger »

Hi got water cooled caravelle 87, got some knocking coming from the rear. which gets louder the faster you go, but coasting in neutral is not so bad or goes altogether. I suspect its the cv joint. As i have not changed one before can anyone tell me of any pitfalls and what to avoid or a good way of changing them.

cheers.

Make sure you take the time to get as much crap out of the cv bolts as you can so they dont round off.
Dont use an allen key use an attachment that goes on a ratchet so you can tap it in nice with a hammer.
Use propper CV grease and not normal grease to fill the boots.
Wear old cloths because your going to get full of grease.
Undo the side against the gearbox first and with a wheel off the ground and its not to hard to spin the wheel to get at the difficult bolts in the wheel.

Not a hard job really just messy.
