What sort of effort and cost (aside from the cost of the engine) is likely to be incurred with swappingan early (1984) 1.9 DG engine for a 2.1 DJ engine? I will be running the DJ as a carb setup to take my LPG conversion and I have a 4speed gearbox.
Cheers

pretty straightforward to do, a few gaskets for the inlet side really and try and get the whole cooling system from donor vehicle to make the swap easier and the engine mount and exhaust

Re: 1.9 DG to 2.1 DJ swaperoo
I did this a couple of years ago and never looked back.
If you can't get hold of the water system it's no big deal as mines fine on the old style, i also managed to plumb in the oil cooler.
I kept the older exhaust system too as i can't see any advantage in using the later one (although many disagree).
Mines on carb and LPG too.
Hope this helps.

Hey Tom,
i'm also in Hackney with a DG Joker and have sometimes thought of the same thing, where would you get the engine from? jut a thought as i was adding up the potential costs of different extras that might need adding and wondered if it was significantly cost effective compared to a DIY scooby- i guess PG would be more complicated on the latter?
cheers
