Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has ever taken apart the catch from an opening quarterlight? I've got a couple of these catches as I've been broken into a few times, (most recently a couple of weeks ago) and was thinking of drilling the holes in a fixed quarterlight. It seems a shame to throw them away as they're so well made!

Re: recycling quarterlights?
You can not drill into toughened glass (which is what you have in your quarterlight), it'll just shatter/crumble

Re: recycling quarterlights?
just fit a lock to the 1/4 light they wont be able to break in again unless they smash the window and it will stop anymore catches breaking
Re: recycling quarterlights?
due to the glass fitting inside the frame i would suggest the opening glass is smaller than the fixed glass.
are the catches the same as beetle /bay catches does any one know?

Re: recycling quarterlights?
i just removed my opening quarter lights as the frames where really rotten, i replaced them with the non opening types. the glass on the non opening quarter lights is much larger so I don't think your idea would work and as said above I don't think you would be able to drill into the glass.
i do have x2 good opening glasses and the rubbers are good as well if anyone wants to buy them?

Re: recycling quarterlights?
thanks folks,
you're right Peasant, it didn't cross my mind that the glass would shatter, on top of that fixies are bigger!
Guess i'll keep the catches and cut some perspex to measure, to keep in an emergency.
cheers
