Considering a 1995 SA that's been stripped out (yes we are gluttons for punishment but we likes comforts in a daily driver) to turn into a weekender. We need to fit it with a full width r&r to seat the three kids - does anyone do a proper steel one that allows for the 3 inch-ish higher engine lid? Otherwise I'll have to dismantle the one in the 1990 to copy and get bending and welding...not too bad a job but still - another project
Can you get rock and roll beds for "big window" SA vans?

Looks like we're going to become a two bus household
and get out of 21st century motoring (you can't fix a damn thing even if you know how to get to it)

I think that most of the new r'n'r beds out there are designed to be used in both the t2 & t3 and so because the engine sits higher in the t2, you need a platform in the back of the t3 to make up the height. I'm guessing the SA bus just won't need the platform. Personally, I liked the proactive bed the best as it seemed to me to be the sturdiest but I wasn't sure about cushions being fastened by velcro!

Ta. Got a link, Robin? Haven't heard of the proactive one. Might be worth a call.

I liked it because its all steal with no boards to worry about. However, I'm not at all convinced that velcro fastened cushions would be safe in a collision. I went with a westy mulitvan bed in the end because at least that was OE (ish) and would have been subjected to some kind of safety testing. Unfortunately, the multivan bed isn't an option for you as it was designed for the t3 and so sits lower than all the aftermarket ones for the reason I mentioned above.

I quite agree about the velcro! Most r&r beds use a couple of bent wire "keepers" for a good reason...to stop the cushions and passengers going flying when you slam on the anchors

G60 Steve's old maroon one had a proper vw rock and roll in it, but seem to remember when folded down it lay level with the raised level, sure he had a thin blow up mattress that went over the top of it all...
Actually, Charlie (Transporcher on Brickyard) has one in the back of his red 'un - don't know if it's higher, maybes drop either of them a PM...

my mate bought a propervelle s.a one off charlie, its fits just like the one in my westy. it would be level with the raised lid requiring a thin mattress over in a s.a bus but fine in a uk one with a normall westy rear mattress

I was going to view the white 2.6 (still on ebay) tomorrow but...got blown out by the vendor (text! Didn't have manners to ring me!)
Pants. I quite fancied it too.
Hey ho. Wait for another one. Still need to sell my Allroad anyway
Unless someone's got a tidy Caravelle syncro...? Doesn't have to perfect!
Not many around for sale, what with the snow - surprise!
