Where have the 1Y intake pics gone.
I saw them somewhere here once. There is a photo of a 1Y in van . The intake is brushing up against the body and the wires are pushed above it. I need to look at this pic again please.

probably on the old forum before we moved last october or whenever it last was, unfortunately I believe a lot of stuff was lost because the server managers deleted our stuff when we moved and the last backup had some errors, Clive and Jenny spent a hell of a lot of time on it.
Probably worth just asking for 1Y installation guys to take some new pics

The 1Y inlet manifold wont fit unless you make clearance.use a 1.6n inlet manifold unless you can make a decent job on the panel for it to fit.

I know. That's why i needed a photo.camper wrote:The 1Y inlet manifold wont fit unless you bash out the side panel for clearance. Its not ideal but use a 1.6n inlet manifold unless you can make a decent job on the panel for it to fit.

Well, we did have a pretty serious upset on Servage before we moved to our own VPS hosting, but we didn't lose anything permanently.
I think if you search the Tech Archive (3rd link from left on menu a very top above) then you'll find it...
Repeat... we didn't lose anything and have a continuous Tech record of posts from Q&A; Alt Engines, Syncro etc for 4 or 5 years

Good luck with the search.
Every time i search for something it comes back with nothing.
Just tried "1Y" and nothing came back.
Yesterday i searched for "gas" in the main forum and that returned nothing too.
Am i doing something wrong?

Re: Where have the 1Y intake pics gone.
Had to do this on my tdi conversion - use 1X manifold (very similar)...
I basically chopped along the top of the main chassis rail, then made a cut up vertically where i needed to clear. This was hammered out and a chunky piece of angled bar and a small plate welded in, fairly neat job all considered...sorry I haven't got pics....

This is an advanced search for +1Y +Inlet +Manifold (e.g. contains all 3 )
http://archive.club8090.co.uk/search.ph ... mit=Search
Or: Try putting a wildcard around your search string
http://archive.club8090.co.uk/search.ph ... mit=Search
Try this one "*got gas*"
Forces to search for known string, anywhere within another
I think 3 letter word or less searches are ignored usually, as they qwould trypically bring back too many results..
+*gas*
But this WILL bring back 149 pages of words with gas within them!

I think the need to clearance or not depends how high the block is, the 1.9 being nearly an inch taller than 1.6's.
Also the petrol versions (2E Golf) versions of that manifold may be fractionally different than those found on the diesel...
Finding where it bashes as the engine torques over under load, then relieving the manifold a bit with a dreadnought (filler) file, certainly take any casting flashes off, might save some chassis thumping. Also, as mentioned in some of the threads the engine can be set as far as possible away from that side of the chassis, using the engine mounting bolt and plate tolerances.

That's the one ! plus the other from the top in your brickyard thread. I'm determined to use one, and I figure i can grind the edge that wants to bash up against the body. If i go too far i'll just my pal weld up some plate to it.v-lux wrote:Does this help?
