Hi,

I was going to leave this one but no-one has replied so I'll have a go.

You say that the pump is full of fuel. Have you tried slackening off the injector unions then cranking the engine on full throttle till airless fuel squrts from all the slack joints? Then tighten the unions and try to start on full throttle. If the steel injector pipes are full of air, what happens is the pump forces fuel into them, but not as far as the injectors, and the compressed air inside the pipe then forces the fuel back into the pump again, so however much you crank the engine, fuel never gets as far as the injectors.

Wear face protection, overalls and gloves when cranking with slack unions, cos the fuel can squirt anywhere. Protect van interior from spray (unless you like your bed smelling of diesel) , and wipe splashes off any rubber/plastic in the engine bay to stop it rotting them. Alternatively do it one union at a time and use a wadge of cloth to soak up the spray.

E D I T. Obviously you have to have the ignition on to do this. (Power to the stop solenoid) Be aware that if you're bleeding the injectors one by one the engine may start at any time. Forgot to mention this yesterday.

Sorry if you are already aware, but worth a go if you aren't.

Colin

at last , at last , at last it runs and runs very well indeed . i had put over £1200 in to this engine and built it up my self (with the help of you guys)so its very nice to here it run with no nasty noises. :ok

in the end as the pump had been standing the fuel return banjo hole was blocked plus pump was bone dry so getting all the air out was a pain.(i used a brake bleeding sucking machine to get deisel through and this done the job great)
at this point it would only tick over and once reved it would die but then with a puff of white smoke it cleared and has been fine since. i love it then things fix them self :D

it has now sheared a fan belt (crank to water pump) it was a bit tight does any one know the correct one :?:

i think i am going to fit a k&n filter as i have nothing else but i also need to sort out the rocker cover breather, is it correct to fit an after market breather which is high up (in van air intake hole on the left) to stop oil coming through, also has anyone fitted a k&n fiter up there as the induction k&n kit looks like you only get a small hose, any ideas

thanks again for all your help i will get some more pics loaded up soon :ok
