VC advice sort after please.

Post by jed the spread »

I was just driving through some sand the other day and thought I would pop the diff locks on to check they work ok. They work fine as expected but one thing was bothering me. Look at this video clip and see how the rear wheels are turning but the fronts arnt. Shouldnt the front wheels be pulling the van out abit sooner than this with both lockers on? I have driven on some quite extreme ice roads and snow over the last week after that clip was taken and it behaved perfectly.

That is what i was thinking. It was from a very cold standing start if that makes a difference.

Mine is tight, it resists quite hard from cold, but after a short distance (3 or 4 miles) starts working nearly normally, but after a bit longer run (20 miles) goes realy tight again..
I'd agree, it ought to have been driving more than that even from cold I should think.. changed the front diff oil? if the VC has burst it will smell pretty dreadfull from what I hear.. even worse than the normal old gear oil smell...

Nah it doesnt really smell. To be fair its done loads of miles the van hence at least the third engine and at least the third gear box rebuild so fcuk it, it might as well have a new visco too  If it needs one it needs one i guess, it might as well as its had new everything else..... it will end up a new van at this rate i think

I think that they need to get up to a working temperature before they really start to work properly. Isnt there information on Jagers English site about this?
