Need new engine, TES engines any good?

Post by knurf »

Hi,

As you all can see in my profile I'am a dutchie and owner of a '81 Joker hightop.
The original CU engine still breaths but is on intensive care so I'll be needing a new engine soon....compression is down to 5,5 bar on all 4 cilinders.. :( :(
As a regular reader of the VW camper&commercial magazine the advert of "The Engine Shop" can't be missed, prices seem good to very good, compared to Vege....are these engines any good???

Cheers

Jasper

Hi Jasper.

I cannot comment on TES but I know many folks are happy with recon motors from Elite

Good luck :ok

I had an engine from TES just over a year ago. A 2.4 air cooled engine. I cant fault the service they gave me.
I'd recommend them

A 2.4
What is the power output on one of those ? (compared to a 2Ltr item)
And
If you don't mind me asking, how much was it ?

It was 2k. Couldnt tell you what the power output was with just the engine as it now has twin Dells. Seem to remember being told by the guy who tuned it on the rolling road that it put out 90+ hp at the flywheel. Dont quote me on that though I'm not that technical.
What I can tell you for fact is it top lined at 105mph and it cruises lovely at 80+ even up hill
Hope that helps
Stu
