Weber 34 DAT adjustment advice needed

Post by Pootle »

I've just fitted the Weber 34 DAT Webercon kit 1889090700 to my 1989 1.9 watercooled T3. I'm having trouble adjusting it.

I can't find any advice for this carb. The Weber carb Haynes manual doesn't cover this specific model.

Does anyone know where I can find a guide to adjusting this carb?

Many thanks

I am not familiar with that particular carb :(

But is it jetted for the VW 1.9 or is it off a "doner vehicle" ?

I ask because when you say "adjust" I wonder if you mean simple adjustments, or actually setting it up with jets etc ?
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

It's the Webcon kit specifically for the VW Transporter 1.9 DG engine i.e. with correct jets etc.

See here: http://www.webcon.co.uk

I'm after info on method of operation and simple adjustments - idle, auto-choke.

There is a Weber Carb Haynes manual available - Just remembered that I bought one a while back. I'll have a look this evening and see if your carb is covered.

Alternatively, have a look on ebay for one... h'mmmm there don't appear to be any on at the moment....

I think it might cover the 32 DMTR, which is similar but without the auto-choke.

Thanks for that, very useful, but they don't cover the 34 DAT/DMTR nor do they describe how to setup the autochoke.

*sigh*

I have the manual for said carb here.

and I'm in Bristol

Pootle, post one more time and then you will be able to pick up a PM from me with my number in it and if needs be you can borrow the Haynes.

I don't do carb set up.

For anyone else's reference the Haynes manual is Weber Carburettors '79-'91 book No. 1784 and it's pretty damned comprehensive.

Took the van to the garage that fitted the carb (Luccombe's in Bristol) for them to strip and clean it.

The mechanic said that inside the carb was loads of very fine sandy material. He'd never seen such a thing on a brand new carb and couldn't explain how it got in there, since there was none in the (brand new) fuel filter. We wondered whether it got into the carb in the factory.

He stripped the carb and reset it and (touch wood) it's running fine now. And he didn't charge a penny!
