camshaft CU 2L Aircooled

Post by RachelDaisy »

Hello,
our camper has been in the garage for 5 weeks, engine in bits, waiting on a new camshaft. The mechanic says VW heritage are looking for one for him as they now only stock "performance" camshafts and he doesn't want to put one on, as he says he will have to beef up other things to cope with it.

I quite frankly don't know what he is talking about :? not being very good at mechanics  . - I have found one on JK that says camshaft mild tune
and this one on Volkspares.

Wouldn't one of these do the job OK?

I just want my camper back

The mild tune one would be fine. What he means is that with a vastly modified cam it may well need pushrods cut to length and all the calculations that go with that. Have built such engines in the past and also fitted mildly tuned cams without any ill-effects.

Volkspares would be able to advise you if you're worried.

try http://www.vw-classicparts.de" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; they may still have them, but there are 9 different ones so you need to know what timing is required, 0 is of course twice the price of the - or + ones

Thanks Covkid, I understand now. I'll tell mechanic to try JK if VW Heritage don't find one for us. I could do without any more expense on this job.

Aidan I wish I had taken German at school

Fingers crossed this will be sorted soon. The camper's been playing up since August and I am well fed up with it.

Thanks x
