Cannot get full thottle

Post by eegdivad »

Recently had my pierburg 2e3 carburettor rebuilt. When fitted back on to the van (1.9, DG) and connected throttle cable up I noticed that the accelerator pedal would only go down about half way. I have traced the cause of this back to the accelerator pump arm (located on the left side of carb as looking into engine) hitting the top of the manifold when it is turned - when the cam acts upon this arm it pushes it down until it hits the manifold. I have considerd there to be two possible causes. 1.When rebuilt the incorrect arm has been put on. I dont know if there are different arms but its worth a guess.2. My other thought is perhaps the carb should be higher above the manifold. Does the carb sit on any kind of plinth or mount or does it attach directly to top of manifold?
If it helps, there is a picture of the arm I am talking about on page 4A.10 of the Haynes manual, picture number 14.7A
Can anyone shed any light on this problem?

Thanks.

There are 2 pump diaphragms to choose from for these carburettors, and as you suggest it may have had the wrong one fitted during the re build.....

Dr Baxter has an explanation regarding this matter, check it out.....

Or you have not replaced the base plate/gasket which may have been stuck to the bottom of your carb when it was removed from the engine.

Thanks Fritz,
I'll have to get the carb off and have another good look at what I've got.
