Padded dash
After taking my dash out last week to sort out the heater blower, (which I hope ive fixed). It got me thinking about tidying up the dash as previous owners have cut holes in it for switches that aren't there anymore, so I thought about trimming it with some nice material. Has anyone done this? Got any tips and tricks you'd suggest?

Re: Padded dash
I made my own dash for my Beetle. Quite easy. Just use a nice streatchy vinyl in your colour of choice, and a decent paint on contact adhesive. Don't go for the spray type it's crap.

Re: Padded dash
put a coat of glue on the dash let it set then another coat. Then use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm the vinyl up so it stretches easy. Then spray adhesive will work but only if you put a coat on the dash and a coat on the back of the vinyl. If you get stuck give us a shout

Hi, Would you paint on two coats of contact PVA on the dash first, then follow that up with spray adhesive?
Good thread this, I have to replace a horrible leopard skin cover on my dash, I'll post pics!

Re: Padded dash
the two coats of contact adhesive should be fine.Don't forget to warm it up first though with either a heat gun or a hair dryer. But you will only have a couple of chances of doing it so make sure the covering is in the right place

Re: Padded dash
I'd quite like to do this too - how hard is it to get the dash out – is it straight forward?

Got one going for free if you want one to 'test' 'play' on
You should be able to get the dash out in half hour , if the steering sheer bolts undo without problem ( good pair of mole grips)
