Heater blower

I''m gonna have the dash out today to try and fix the heater blower, the blower works so hoefully it's just siezed. My question is, do I still have to take off the waterpipes off or can I get away with not doing that? I'm a bit nervous about having to bleed the system having never done that before.

I had to fix the blower on my old camper. Once the dash is out you can remove the upper section of the plastic heater assembly to get at the motor. I didn't touch any waterpipes

Often wondered if I could drill holes enough to get a thin bit of tube onto the bearing to get some oil onto it ! (thereby avoiding all the work involved in stripping the dash out)

No I don't think you can access it without removing the top section of the assembly - although I might be wrong; it was several years ago I did mine.

Well I've removed the dash, my god! Took me a few minutes to compose myself. I can't seem to get the top half of the heater unit open. I've disconnected the clips, what do I do know?

With the blower pod unbolted, pull it away sufficiently to gain access to the motor on the side you can't see. You can't get at all of it but should be able to spray WD40 into relative areas, spin it by hand a few times, spray some more etc. You don't need to take pod apart for that and in fact probably only need to if motor is knackered.

Ok so I got the cover off, brute force, the blower is moving freely, I started the van up with the heating on let it run and there's no smoke coming out and there's no smell of smoke. The only thing I've done since opening it is remove a coue of bit of waht looked like copper from the fan blades. Anyone got any other ideas or do you reakon that we what was causing it and I'm good to put it back together? I'm gonna clean it all first.

Should be fine. If its still troublesome, fit a new blower

Well that hasn't fix it in fact if anything it's made it worse. Can I still get a new blower motor from vw? I'd prefer fit a new one rather than buy an old one and have the same problem a couple of years down the line.

Cheers mate, will I have to mess about with the water pipes if I replace the motor?

Sorted, brought a new heater motor from gsf (cheers Covkid), took the old one out, fitted the new and now no smoke when I'm driving. Lovely
