Steering Gear - Float & Grease (Not PAS)

Post by Yozza »

Ay up,
I've got the steering gear off for a check-up. I've noticed that there is some pitting and float (about 1-1.5mm) in the steering rack. I've had a look in the manual and I haven't found owt specified so I suspect that there should be no play at all? I haven't cleaned all the grease off yet to have a closer look, I suspect there will be a bush at each end within the steering gear housing? Additionally, do I need to use specific steering grease? If so, will the motor factors have a generic grade or do I need to call VW?
