2.8 v6 cooling???????

Post by johnbullsbum »

hi all, i have a t25 with a ford capri 2.8i v6 without the injection in, over the last couple of weeks its been overheating very quickly.
i flushed the system out, checked the fan, replaced the dalek and thermostat on the engine, filled it back up , bled it and still had the same problem.
theres not a leak on the piping, no white stuff on the oil filler cap and the heaters work. the header is higher than the engine.
water pump definitely ok
decided to remove the thermostat, fill it, bleed it and now works ok.
my question is , will this cause a problem at a later date. i have a turbo to go on this engine but am loath to put it on if there may still be a problem with the cooling.

any guidance would be appreciated
thanks
mark

if there is a head ghasket failure then this will help for a short while.

get a garage to do a sniff test , or drive it around for a bit to see what happens.

you could just rebuild the engine , not expensive , then you have an engine you can trust!

how long was it running ok for?(how long you had it?)

I think there are three questions.

Is the system fully bled with no air locks especially in the engine.

What temp thermastat have you removed/replaced.

Is the water flowing the correct way round the wayter system eg. from engine to rad correct direction?

Before you go down the route of turboing the motor, will your gearbox survive? I am having to keep off the loud pedal to prevent it destroying my gearbox as I am saving for a Aiden Talbot gearbox to take the BHP. Have a chat with the gearbox man to see if you should lay off the turbo for a while.

without sunding off,

are you just going to blt the turbo on and connect it to the inlet, or have you the matching carb and pistons ect?

my question is , will this cause a problem at a later date. i have a turbo to go on this engine but am loath to put it on if there may still be a problem with the cooling.

the system is fully bled and working without the engine thermostat, on an hours run the temp doesnt move over a quarter, even in town, i do drive it hard as i like the look on peoples faces when you spank them off the line
the flow is the correct way round, water coming in at the bottom of the engine, up through past the pump and out the top to the radiator
gearbox is a 4 speed and pretty much bullet proof

basically if the coolings ok without the thermostat ill put the turbo on, its a single turbo with the inlets i was going to bolt on and sort the oil retuns out

thanks for your help and thoughts
ps im in southend next saturday with a trailer on thats half a vw polo with the van
