The wheel carrier is on the front instead of a bash plate (i know they are ok if they are syncro ones but i am not sure this one was) But the rear was missing when saw it. Its a petrol engine guard.

If you can still see the pushrod tubes like in the photo DO NOT take it off road till you have the pushrod tube covers and get the engine bashplate on too, Syncrospares had some engine guards and vw heatage do the tinwear for the push rod tubes if you want new ones.

As jed say's, dont off road without rear gaurd.

Speak to Syncrospares if yours is missing. They were doing front bash plates powder coated for 70 quid.

Simon, that switch on your gearbox is on upside down, the cable should clip on from the top not the underneath. Potential oil leak problem.

And on the skid plate issue:
Front skid doesn't matter diesel or petrol, rear skid does, if you are petrol you need a petrol one.

Actually, looks like you are missing push rod covers and the side tin ware, hope your not doing long trips in this, or water.

Thanks for that, reversers have not worked for some time. There must be a notch in the push rod which faces up then. Will sort tomorrow.

Hmmm, I'm familiar with the front bash-plate (mine has 2 holes in it and wondering at present whether to have it welded up or buy new), but a rear one?
Does it look the same as the front bash-plate?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

syncro simons 1st and 2nd pics show what the original VW one is for the engine.. not really a plate, more a frame with a couple of sturdy bits on it...

Hold on, I have mine off, but has big alloy plate attached.. will take a couple of pics... back in 5... :ok

Black frame is the original VW part, left towards the front of vehicle...
Image

Alloy plate I made to fully protect box and engine.. and also pritects the silencer..
Image

Original front bash plate.. its had a bit of a hammering... doesnt go under to protect diff, but diff housing is pretty strong...
