leccy mirrors
evening , how can i test a set of mirrors before putting any wiring in the van, is it simply a case touching the wires from the mirrors on a battery or do i have to run em through a switch ?? thanks in advance

Yes just touch them across a battery.
You'll will find that they are paired.
Blue and black drive the motor (reverse polarity to go in other direction).
Brown and white operate the soleniod (you should hear a click when you connect a battery across).
As I remember - blue + black gives left/right & blue+black with brown+white gives up/down.
As arvi said Beemer e34 motors are mechanically identical, they are not electrical identical though.
You have to ditch a diode on the Beemer units and replace it with a resistor.
The plus side is that Beemer units are much cheaper (mainly because they don't have VW T3 stamp on them).
